Hi Maid I think I got the original Police Orders site details from one of your postings a loooooong time ago :) If it wasn't you then I certainly remember, whoever it was, talking about an article they had written. Chris

Naomi You could have a look at the old Police Orders site, now renamed... http://www.externalserver.(me).uk:8085/ It used to just cover the City of London (and just to make you sick) had a facility for putting in a name and all sorts of wonderful info would come up, all for free......But now it has withdrawn the facility :( BUT,,,,The upside is that it looks as if they have extended the site to cover the whole of the Met and they will do a search for a 'small fee'. If you can't get to Kew then it might be an option. Chris

Nothing online. Met police records are at the National Archives in Kew. Service records give physical description, date of birth, place of birth, previous employment, previous public service, information about which division(s) and dates served etc. Met police pension records are also at Kew and give forwarding addresses for pensions and other info. My gt uncle's one gave his final salary, including allowances for 3 children and for coal! City of London police records are at the Guildhall. Further info about it on The National Archives website research leaflet - its long! www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=104

Then just try googling Metropolitan Police Archives and the site should come up.

I'm assuming it will be City of London or Met. One is in Bishopsgate in 1901 and one at Notting Hill. Naomi x
