Just found a 4 year old lodger living with one set of my family in the 1891 census. Their only daughter is 10 so it cant be an illegitimate child surely? they have another lodger living with them who is a male aged 20 but the 2 seem totally unrelated. Has anyone else got this in their tree and does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks |

Could the lodger be the child of the other lodger's sister? Could it be a family member, daughter of the wife? |

Meant could it be an extended family member - daughter of the wife's sister? Could she be the daughter of the other lodger's sister or similar? |

Back in those days everyone lived in and out of each others houses all down the street.EVERYTHING was shared (unlike today) My inlaws mother lived in London with 13 kids in a 2 up 2 down house. They took turns in sleeping all along the street! The street would buy one newspaper and hand it through the bedroom windows lol Talk about recycling! lol My guess would be that they had to put the names down of who was at that house on THAT night. Check all along the same street for the 'lodgers' family name. |
