Hi Does anyone know if you can get information altered or added on to the burial records? After years of searching for the burial of my Great Granddad’s sister I have finally found her but the record does not have her surname. I found her burial on the Manchester council website. I only found her by looking at who else was in the grave. For some reason only her first and middle name is on record, she died when she was 11 months old, I have her death certificate and I have viewed the original burial image so know that it is defiantly her. As her surname was not on the record this is why I have had such difficulty finding her and I now want to know if there is anyway we can get her surname added? Thanks Karen |

Hi Karen, I dont think they will do it personally. they never like to interfere with the official records especially such historic ones as they usually dont know the mittigating circumstances as to why records were kept in a certain way or why perhaps only her first names were recorded so dont like to tamper with history so to speak. The only thing they might consider is adding a note to any fiding aids i.e. transcriptions of said records, but they wont alter the originals. Suzanne XX |

I could be that whoever transcribed the particular record simply couldn't transcribe the surname, possibly because the original record was damaged, or the handwriting is hard to read. |

Hi I have paid to view a copy of the image which also shows just her name and no surname - i have had a look on their website and have email to see if they know if something can be done. Thanks Karen |

Its always worth contacting them - if they cannot alter the actual record they can always add a note or something to include your information. Even Ancestry have an option for you to correct a name if people have been mistranscribed, so its always worth a go. |
