Hi Germanine Definitely 'steward' but not sure about the 'ships' bit, unless it was corrected afterwards, looks a bit blurred to me, definitely starts with an S but not sure the second letters a 'h', but don't know what else it might be. Sorry Looby

Thanks Looby That is exactly what I thought couldn't think of what else it could be looks like an e on the end I know in 81 he was an AB and in 91 a seaman the 1901 a grocer then in 1905 he is a fisherman so thought perhaps the ship would fit in nicely. Germaine x

Hi Jeanette yes I think that is definately him in 1881 so I think maybe this is him in 1871 . Funny thing he is living at Warren Farm Cottage guess what we live on the land that was Warren farm. There is another John and I wanted to dismiss the other I think this is the right one but best get his marriage cert ordered to be sure. Germaine x
