Looking for PRO Tips

I am hopefully going to take my first trip to PRO at Kew shortly, and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make it all as painless as possible. Is it better to do as many look ups on line as possible to get reference numbers before hand? etc I am a complete ignoramus where this is concerned. So any useful info from walking through the doors to how best to plan my day would be appreciated. So I dont get too overwhelmed!

First thing you need is a readers ticket. Do you have one? Iene

It's not called the PRO any more. It's The National Archives and its website should tell you most of what you need to know, as well as the thread bumped up for you. To answer your specific question - YES! You can pre-register and pre-order up to 3 documents. Once you've collected them you can order the next 3. This will save a lot of time.

Lorna, Just a quick line to endorse what Nell has said about pre-ordering ... in fact, I would recommend going with a whole list of 'possible' document reference numbers. This speeds up your work/research rate and keeps you on track - the place is quite 'imposing' and it's easy to become distracted. Most of all ... enjoy your day out! Regs Annie

Thanks for that Shall certainly be looking @ website & sort out a ticket. But as usual GR members personal experiences are more helpful than any site info!! xx
