Children's home - 2 Maida Vale

Hello I have discovered a relative who is an inmate at a children's home at 2 Maida Vale, parish of St Mark's in West Marylebone in the 1891 census (RG12/105). It is identified as an institution and the head is a 'matron of children's home'. Four of the seven staff are nurses. The age range of the children is 5-15. I can not find this in the Barnardo's or Waifs and Strays homes lists. I understand that these homes could be established by philanthropists but I can find no information at all about this institution (Google, Genuki etc) and it seems to be located at a good address. Any tips?

there's this webby hiddenlives.org.uk and if you search the tips thread there's loads of ideas of where to look. Its bugging me, because I remember reading about the children's home your talking about (I think) and I think it was run by nuns. Though I can't remember WHERE I read it! Sorry that isn't much good. Blonde senior moment!!

Hello Karen Thanks - I have explored those trace routes to no avail. I don't think this place was still running in the 1901 census. I have found 2 brothers in institutions - one here and one in the Stepney Causeway Barnardo's 'Her Majesty's Hospital'. Neither of them appear in the 1901 census nor on the death registers 1891-1901. Although both would have been 21 or over in 1901, I suppose I had better start searching emigration records. Thanks
