Hi My ancestor died in January 1885, yet still appears on the 1885 electoral rolls for St Pancras in London. I would just like to know what month in each year the electoral rolls were taken, say for example would the 1885 electoral rolls of been taken that year or late in the previous year? Any ideas please? Thanks Ben

Usually they run from October the previous year. So 1885 would be Oct 1884 but given the time factor to collect all the names & print them it would be a few months earlier. Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm Thanks for the info. Its amazing how electoral rolls and directories can help in finding someone on a census. Ben

Don't know whether the system has changed much, but I've just filled in my electoral roll details and the form says I must give details of people in the house on 15 October eligible to vote and that the register will be published 1 December.

Just to say, my Grandmother, who died in 1952, was still appearing on electoral rolls a couple of years after her death!
