Hi All I'm having quite a large number of emails from people looking for things. At times when I'm busy I just want to allow people to go into my tree and see if there is any possiblility of a match. And yet after I send a reply saying I will give them access to my tree - sometimes they are not listed as a contact and so I can't. How is the contacts list generated ? Also is there any way to let others see your tree by default ? The system seems to be giving many people matches that are clearly way out, and they could easily see that if they had access to my tree. Appologies if I sound a bit anti-social but I didn't realise what a commitment it is putting your tree on here - and I can't see why I would want to keep it all secret anyway! Simon |

Simon In answer to one of your questions/queries..... The person will be in your contacts but probably lurking under a name you don't recognise. I have had this problem and when it happens just go to my contacts list, put it into date order and check against the date of contact. If I really get stuck I ask the contact what names they could be known by......LOL Chris |

I understand that people sometimes only get into your contacts list if there's a 2-way exchange of messages. Female names may be different in the message and in the contacts list (I think the contacts list has the married name). I normally identify contacts by the surname they are enquiring about. Letting people see your tree can be a mixed blessing. My tree is well over 2000 people, several of whom are alive. So any enquiry is likely to only affect a little bit of my tree, and I very rarely let other people see the whole of my tree. My tree is a work in progress, rather than a finely polished gem. So I have to tell folk how accurate the info. is. John |
