You mean Catholic and Protestant beliefs? They are all Christian Faiths. The Roman Catholic Church was divided centuries ago, and those who 'protested' at the doctrines of the Catholic church formed their own, with its basis in Catholicism but leniency toward other things, such as divorce. That was due to Henry VIII. Thats it in a nutshell, though its more complex than that.

I have the same degree and job as Alan, and agree with what he's said. However, just to clarify something people seem to get mixed up with, is the difference between religion and denomination. Religions are belief systems such as Islam, Buddhism, Christianity,etc. Denominations of Chrsitianity are Catholicism, Church of England(or Anglican in OZ) Lutheran, Uniting, Baptist, etc. In Australia most peolpe who give Christian as their religion actually mean one of the penticostal churches, and the others use their denomination (Catholic,etc).
