Hi I sent for a marriage cert on which the groom's name is Peter Lennon, his father is Thomas Lennon, a Stevedore. The same is stated on Peter's birth cert that his father is Thomas Lennon, Stevedore. Anyway, I was a RO today and decided to look at the original marriage entry in the Catholic registers. Don't ask me why I decided to look, not sure I should have now! Obviously it was all in Latin, but what it actually said was 'Petrum Lennon filium Rebelam Thomas Lennon' Now I know it means 'Peter Lennon son of ' but where did Rebelam come from and what does it mean?! I've tried googling and all I can find it means is Rebel or Rebellious, surely the priest wouldn't put that on! Also why does the cert I have from GRO only say Thomas on marriage as well as birth. The original record does not have father's occupation on, so is the copy sent to GRO by priest different to original entry in Parish register.? Any one any ideas! Thanks Simone x
