T all that helped me thank you so much. I ordered a marriage cert for Abraham Sparrow Preston and Susannah Sergeant,which i recieved today. It still does not give much info... apart from susannah's father was David Sergeant however he was deceased at the time of her marriage in 1891. Wittnesses were joseph Hughes and mary Hill. I still only know that Abrahams Mother was Elizabeth Preston and he was born in Wolverhampton Staffs. susannah was born in Kidderminster. I have been looking for susannah's father But can't find any record on the census. Can anyone help me please. Julie XXXX

Julie Glad to hear you got the cert. Does it not give a name for his father or does it just say 'natural son of Elizabeth Preston'?

Hi Alex.. No all it says is that he was illigitimiate.... which is no help what so ever.... don't know whether to give yp or not and just pursue susannah and her parent's, although thats just as difficult as can't seem to find anything on the census. julie XX

The problem may be he was a sailor & away from home or even he died b4 the 1881 census. Have you thought about her birth certificate?The 1901 census is suggesting she was born in 1869 & not 1873.........but again the index gives her birth year as 1873??!?? Elton

Hi Elton, where did you find her birt reg ? On the marriage cert it states that she was 20 yrs she was married in 1891 so that would make her birt as 1871. Julie X

I think both familys may have been living in Dudley at the time before marriage as it states this on the cert at time of Marriage. Julie XX

District of Kidderminster does cover parts of Worcestershire, Shropshire & Herefordshire........ Julie does the cert. give any hint of occupation for Susannah ie in service? Also does it confirm Abrahams age?

Hi Paul, I have just realised that was the 1871 census and states that susannah was 14 at that time, however she was born in either 1871 or 73 so this cant be the right one i don't think, i will check it out though and thanks again for helping Julie xxx
