What do you think, is it just a letter left out?

I have been looking for George Mason Thompson b. c 1819 St. Giles for some time. His father was John, mother not known. I have found a John Thompson b. St Andrews Holborn to John Thompson and Susanna. They also had another child Edward Mason Thompson. I have also found a marriage on Pallotts for John Mason Thomson and Susannah Scarlett. St. Geo. Martyr Westminster 1799. It just seems too much of a coincidence to me. What does anyone else think? Could the 'p' have been left off the marrige cert., it certainly says Thomson on the image. ????????? |

Hi Helen Thanks for your reply. Would they have just told the name to the registrar and he wrote it the way he heard it do you think? |

Yes, quite likely a spelling error. Even in this day and age it happens. When my husband and I got married, the Curate gave us a sample form that she had filled out and everything was spelt correctly. I particularly checked my father's name - Denis - spelt with one 'n'. She had it correct. After the wedding when I checked the certificate, she'd spelt it with 2 - Dennis! |
