I have not been on here much lately so I may have missed something. Sorry if I am repeating something you all know. I got a pm regarding a name in my tree & when I replied I looked for the box to untick permission to view my tree & it is not there. I've checked in contacts & the person does not have access so I guess they have removed the automatic permission feature. Nice of them to notify us. Vivienne |

Did the pm say they'd seen your tree? Its possible the name was in their Hot Matches, isn't it? |

I think the permission to view your tree is on the original box if YOU contact the other party first. As they contacted you then you have to give them permission later on your contacts list by clicking the box that allows the access |

I believe it's only if you are making first contact that the box comes up to untick. If you are just responding to someone else it doesn't come up because there is no chance of opening your tree to them unless you do it manually. I hate that little box. I have forgotten about it many times and opened my tree to someone that I didn't want to. When I do that I immediately go to my contacts page and untick it. Margaret |

I've always had to untick when replying to contacts via hot matches before but I've just thought maybe it wasn't a hot match. Maybe that is the diference. Vivienne |

Hi, I have asked GR if they would default it to 'Not View' the tree since it's a real pain if you are replying to a lot of emails and forget to check the tick box. They have replied and said they would bring it to the attention of their team. Hope they do change it as I have inadvertently given permission by forgetting to check the tick box on many occaisions. Margaret is correct, it is only the first person making contact who has to remember to untick the box. Remember though if you contact someone through 'Hot Matches', you are not replying, because there is no message to reply to, you are making first contact, hence the need to untick.the box. 'Hot Matches' only suggests potential connections, like 'My Tree Matches' does, it does not establish them You can only do this by one of you sending a message. It is confusing and it would be better all round if it were changed. |
