Hi Sarah Only the adopted person can apply for their original birth certificate and adoption file. Hoping the records are still intact given she was adopted before WW2... some records were destroyed during that time. Have another dig around in the attic... sometimes the birth mothers name was known to the adoptive parents. Hopefully, her adoptive parents kept the information along with her adoption certificate. Good luck if Nan wants to apply for her file. Let us know how you go on. Cheers Gerry |

Hi Paul, My mum asked me to trace her fathers family as she did not know anything about them, at the same time I added her mum and her mums parents, however, when my mum started looking for info she had in the attic she came across my nans 'adoption certificate'. I just didnt know if it was worth me tracing my nans adoptive family, not sure if other adopted ppl do. We are not necessarily wanting to trace my nans real parents, I wouldnt know where to start if we did want to anyway! We havent spoken to nan yet, we only found this info last night. Regards, Sarah |

Hi Sarah, Out of curiosity has your nan suggested that's what she would like you to do or is it that you have just discovered the information? Paul |

Alot depends on when your nan was born I guess. Tracing her adopted family may well not help. In alot of cases they may well not know her birth parents idendity. Donna |

If you put 'adoption' in the search box at the top of this message board you will see there are lots of threads about this topic - mainly adoptees looking for birth relatives and vice versa. Whether or not you choose to trace the adoptive family is up to you. |

Hi, I have just found out that my nan on my mothers side was adopted when she was about 9 mths old. We have her adoptive birth certificate with some info on. I was just wondering if I should trace her adoptive parents family or not? We dont know who her real parents were. Please could I also ask for any tips ppl may have re adopted children? I have never come across an adopted ancestor before. Kind regards Sarah |
