I would be grateful if anyone could answer this query. If a child was born in army barracks around 1875 would the birth be recorded by the army or through the normal registration system? Many thanks Gill

if the barracks was in the Uk then the normal registration would apply .If abroad then the overseas section should find them.

Thanks Shirley. It is in this country and I had hoped the reverse would apply as I can't find him under the normal registration. Thanks for your advice. Gill

Hello Shirley Yes he is on the census but I was hoping to find his mothers maiden name on his birth certificate and his four sisters were all born before him in Bombay. Gill

Hello Gwyneth I am looking for John Whelan born around 1875 in Brentwood where I believe the family had returned after a long period in the army stationed in Bombay (details of the family are found on the 1881 census, see Bridget Whelan born 1963 Bombay). The family could have stayed for a short time at Warley Barracks, Warley, Brentwood. Many thanks Gill

Some names would be helpful.would guess that the dad was in the army so the later children were born in Bombay. Their births should be on the overseas section Crossed with your last posting!!
