Thanks :) I will now have to persuade the hubby to part with £20 needed to get the certificate! This may take even longer than searching (lets just say he was estranged from him under bad circumstances). |

You would be wise to find the marriage, and buy the cert. It would tell you his age at the time, and his father's name.....plus whether the female had been married previously...........save a lot of guesswork! Have you got Colin's birth cert? I rather think not....... Where did you get the name David for his father? This is the birth reg'n.............all you need to purchase the cert online is given. OND 1944 Wokingham 2c/804 Spence, Colin, MMN Rowe You would then be working with facts, which would make your task easier.......... Reg |

I see what you mean now - thanks so much for the help! I will try I guess 1900 up to 1902, and see if I have more luck. This familt is very confusing, all I have is the info posted, and that he married someone with maiden name Rowe, and they had a son Colin in 1944. The 1925 date I now believe to be incorrect, which is why I'm trying to find out about the '1901 David' instead. Hmm, another thought - this would have been wartime, what if Rowe was previously married. I wish I knew more! |

Is the David Spence you seek here the same one you are looking for on Records? On there you give his birth as c1925......... Reg |

YOu'vemanaged to confuse me aswell.........lol Name: David Spence Birth Date: 14 Sep 1901 Death Registration Month/Year: Jan 1986 Age at death (estimated): 84 Registration District: Reading And Wokingham Inferred County: Berkshire Volume: 19 Page: 630 The date of birth is only only as accurate as the person giving the details believes them to be. Just because he died in the area doesn't mean he was born there. I would look for a birth in 1901 and 1902. Is there a reason why are looking under different surnames ? I think you need to get the cert for more information. What about a MC ? - that might hold more clues. |

This is the death entry you refer to......... Name: David Spence Birth Date: 14 Sep 1901 Death Registration Month/Year: Jan 1986 Age at death (estimated): 84 Registration District: Reading And Wokingham Inferred County: Berkshire Volume: 19 Page: 630 The registration district is the one in which he died.............there is no info about his birth, other than the date. To find out where he was born, you need to buy the cert............. Reg |

I have found a death that I believe my partners grandfather: Date of Birth Registration District Year of Registration Month of Registration SPENCE, David 14 September 1901 Reading/wok 1986 January Volume No 19 Page No 630 Reg No 186 But I can't find his birth for those details! Can anybody give me some ideas why I wouldn't be able to find these? I keep thinking of different surnames, etc, I can only find a David Lawrence born in that quarter in the Reading/Wokingham area. Perhaps he could have been born in another area though. Oh I'm so confused! Thanks for any tips! Caroline |
