Hi Helen, you could try on the National Archives to see if they are listed in the WW2 seamen's medals, because they could well still have been sailors at that time, couldn't they? It would be an easy place to start, anyway. Go to http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/ and you can click on 'WW2 Seamen's Medals' over on the right of the screen. If you search for Victor Phillips, 5 matches come up and they all have middle names and dates of birth listed, so you will easily know if any of them is yours. (I didn't know your grandfather's name, so I didn't try that!) Kate. |

Well Grandad Phillips was born in 1901 and his brother was a couple of years older than him, so I would say around the 1920's, I do know that Victor was living in the south around portsmouth/ Southhampton area, if that's any help. Helen |

Helen, can you give us some idea of what dates you are talking about, please? The National Archives website does have WW2 medal info about merchant seamen, for example. Kate. |

Can any one suggest where I could find some info about people seving on ships? My hubby's Grandad served in the merchant Navy and I was wondering if there was any site that would list crew members. His brother also served as a purser on the Cunard line as well. Any help would be appreciated. Helen |
