If the child was born in 1873 then there is a reasonable chance that the father should appear on the 1871 census - also it may be worth looking for the marriage of the father. The birth cert of the child will show the possibility of the mother also being German born which could suggest that the parents were married before they arrived here. I can see that the IGI does not have many Hulberts and nothing for Frederick (Friedrich ??) about 1839 ? It looks like a trip to Kew unless you can find the town of birth. I note a Frederick Hulbert married in Melksham 1872 1st qtr ?? and then two others shortly after in various places. Do you know Fred's profession ? |

If your German ancestor became a british citizen you may find his details at Kew - some of this information is online with them and you can order the certificates - maybe worth a try if his naturilization details are at Kew and you get a copy it should give you his birth details. Good luck Irene |

HI, My GG Grandfather Frederick Hulbert was born in Germany in 1839,The only census I found him on is the 1891, living with his son . I do have his sons birth cert , he was born in cardiff 1873. Can any one give me tips on how to trace him back to Germany where he was born . the 1891 cesus states he was now a british subject. Jacqueline reasons |
