Hot Matches & Contact List - Help please anyone???

Ok, when the Hot Matches come through, I go through the list and any likely matches I send a mail off to. Naturally half of these won't bother to respond, even though I ask politely if they wouldn't mind letting me know one way or the other. If I find out for sure that there is no connection, then I was deleting the contact both from my hot matches and from my contacts to keep the lists to a minimum. However, during a recent bout of illness, I didn't do this, and now I am in a mess. There doesn't seem to be a way (not that I can find anyway) of deleting a non-match from both the hot match list and the contact list, without searching for the matching details on both lists and deleting them both together. I don't want to just delete all the negatives from my contact list, as then I won't know from the hot match list if I have already contacted them or not and what their answer was (it's bad enough having all the non-responders clogging it up). How does anyone else keep track of theirs? Is there a way of doing this that I haven't discovered yet? Otherwise it looks like it could take me hours of going through them to match them up and delete them on both pages :o( Can anyone shed any light on this please ? Many thanks!

I recently deleted a lot of contacts spring/autumn clean and was suprised to find that their messages remained in my inbox and sent message folder so I can still find them if they answer again. The hotmatch list still shows contacted even though I deleted the contact if you see what I mean. I do wish you could mark hot matches definite match or some such as contacted could just mean they had sent me a pm complaining about one of my posts on here. Anne

My understanding is that is you delete a name from 'My Contacts' it simply deletes the contact from the list. It does not remove the contact match from GR's system. Simililarly if you delete a name from 'Hot Matches' you simply move it from the live list to the ignored list - it is still there and can be retrieved So, if you look in 'Hot Matches' or 'My Tree Matches' you will still be able to see it you have contacted before. Also as you have probably gathered, the different search lists are independent so deleting a name from 'Hot Matches' doesn't affect what you see on 'Hot Matches' or on 'My Tree Matches' The only common factor across all lists is the fact that you have made contact with a name in the first place. This link remains on the system as I have stated, and will only disappear if you remove the connected name from the database altogether. This also explains why names will apparently re-appear as 'new' after a tree has been re-loaded.
