There are gaps i have found for certs on the details on the bmd online ie gaps in years/area. Is this information available if i physically go to the actual bmd office? Is it in a book somewhere for me to view?

If you're talking about FreeBMD then you can have a look and see what hasn't been transcribed yet. As this is done by volunteers there are obviously things missing and it is being done as quickly as they can. If you know what you are looking for you could try 1837online, but it is obviously pay per view, or the county records office for the county or Kew. Regards Looby

You don't make it clear where you have searched.........is it only on freebmd? Or have you viewed the images which appear in the full records on Ancestry? Reg

Hate to contradict you, Looby, but Kew would not be the right place. The national BMD indexes may well be available on microfiche at any county records office, not just the one for the county where the birth, marriage or death you are looking for took place. All (well, except a few missing pages) of the index pages are available free on ancestry, and if a page is missing from there it will most likely be on 1837 online, which you do have to pay to look at. As for the original question, there are no gaps in 'area' on FreeBMD, because it is transcribed from the indexes by index page, not by district, county or anything like that. Kate.
