I have one who's Mary Ann, and that seems to be the norm, but there are exceptions. Jay

My Polly was actually called Polly. I was searching and searching for a Mary Ann thinking it was an abbreviation, when she was called Polly Ann all along :) Bex

Parrot ?. Sorry could not resist. Hqw about Pollyanna, (not sure about spelling). I did know a girl once whose name WAS Polly, so perhaps it,s a name in it,s own right. regards, Mick.

It is a name in it's own right - but often is short for Mary (Mary changes to Molly in turn to Polly)

I've got a Polly who was a Mary Ann. Hope that helps. I asked the very same question a while back and then found my Mary Ann because of it. So, fingers crossed for you.
