There are some good Boer War sites online(many Aussie) with quite a lot of military personnel info.If you become interested in SA their National Archive can be searched online. It's a bit of a challenge search wise but with some persistence I came up with info which enabled me to get a 1903 death notice .

Sorry, but the two Boer wars fall either side of these dates.

Paul is indeed correct. There were two Boer wars. The first being 1880 - 81 and the second being 1899 - 1902. Snowdrops

Dot.... if you have any records of him, look to see if the letters RFA or RGA appear. They stand for Royal Field Artillery and Royal Garrison Artillery, and it's basically the Royal Field Artillery who were sent out to war zones, the Royal Garrison Artillery mainly used at static defence sites. Where was the hospital? That might give a clue.

Dot, You could try looking for his service record. These survive (well, some of them) at the Public Record Office in Kew. If you put his name into the online catalogue, you might just get lucky. Then, if Kew is too far away for you to get there, I believe they offer a document copying/despatch service which is relatively good value - when compared with costs of travelling. Good luck & regs Annie
