My Great Grandmother is Frances Mary Lines born 1871, Wellingborough. I have her on the 1881 Census with her father John, her brother Robert, sister Martha and a housekeeper at Lines Lodge, Newton Bromswold. She is shown on 1901 Census as at 32 Crabb Street Rushden with her husband John Small and Robert John (my grandfather), sharing a house with Martha (married name Fennell) and her family. However, I cannot find her anywhere on the 1891 – her father is shown at Manor Close, Rushden with Robert and Martha, he and Robert are shown as Agricultural Labourers and Martha as ‘housekeeper’. John shown as widower aged 58. I have reason to believe that she was in service, possibly at the ‘big house’ (? Tilbrook Grange) between Kimbolton and Catworth (I believe at that time Huntingdonshire, but could be Beds), but I seem to be unable to get to the census pages for the area at the moment. If anyone can find her I would be eternally grateful. Many thanks Looby Loo |

Hi Looby, I have had a good look and I cannot find her anywhere. The 'Big House' you mention would come within St Neots RD I think, and I have gone through every servant in St Neots, and there is no-one even close. Sorry, Liz x |

Thanks Liz, think I might have to give up on trying to find where she was, at least I have her before and after, was really just trying to 'fill in the gap'' Looby |
