Sick Nurse....

In that case, it is probably just a coincidence that she is a sick nurse. On the other hand, it maybe that she is some sort of relative, or friend I suppose and was just lending a hand because the mother/baby were ill. As a visitor, she would not be being paid by them. Linda

Unless they were well off, then I don't think they would employ a nurse for the child. I would have thought it more likely that the childs mother was ill after the birth and the nurse was there to look after her. My other thought is what status did this nurse have in the house? Is she down as a servant, or is she a boarder or lodger and it is just a coincidence that she happens to be a nurse? Linda

On the 1901 census my great grandmother has a baby sister that no one knew about, because of this I have tried to find a possible death certificate for her but to no avail. On the census also it shows that there was a sick nurse living with them at this time. Is it possible that she was there to look after the baby and perhaps did so until she died?
