Hi All At risk of boring everyone as I know there was a thread with reference to this, but unfortunately I cannot find it for love nor money....I would like to know if there is anyone out there who would be able to get some pictures of certain places for me. If anyone could point me in the right direction of the correct thread or put me in touch with anyone who may be able to help?? I would be so grateful!!! The pictures I would like are in Birmingham and I live in Kent so it isn't too easy just to pop along and take them myself. Any help would be so appreciated! Many thanks Caroline |

If you put PHOTOS and the places you want in your thread title, people in a position to help will be more likely to read your thread. |

Thanks Helen, I changed as you suggested. Hi Georgina, the 3 I am after are Great Hampton St, Farm St and Frankfort St all in the same area I believe in Birmingham, WestMidlands. That is all I have I am afraid. |

Caroline I have just checked my A-Z and the 3 Streets are still there, if you Google 'Great Hampton Street Birmingham' and then click images there are quite a few photos. The area has been modernised in the last 10 years what is it you are looking for? Georgina. |

Well it is mainly to see if the properties that ancestors lived in still exist, but the main one is to see if a place called 'The Justice Inn' still exists in Frankfort St. I believe it was number 99. It was where my Grandfather and all his siblings grew up. I believe it may have belonged to a brewery called 'Mitchels & Butlers. I have tried their web site but to no avail. I even tried emailing them direct but had no luck. Thanks for the tip on the images though, I will go and have a look. Thanks for your help! Caroline |

Wow thanks for that, I was begining to think that the place never existed except for the census entry I found in the 1901 census for my ancestors. I will keep digging Thanks Georgina Caroline |

Hi Caroline, Have just had a look at the Postcode finder for Frankfort Street, it is very close to winson green prison and the numbers on the houses only go up to 57 nowadays and there are no Pubs showing in the road. So sadly I suspect it has been demolished. Good luck with your searching, Audrey |

Hi Caroline All the places you mention are in the Newtown area of Brum and although a lot of the street names are still there only a handful of the old building have survived. One of the things it was known for apart from the back to back houses and those that lived in them is the fact that there was a pub on every corner and one inbetween. It was an area that housed people from all points of the compass who all came to work in the city that it used to be said of 'If you can't buy it or get it made in Birmingham it doesn't exist', sadly not so these days. This link will take you to a site that shows old photo's of the area that will give you an idea of what it was like, 'The Bartons Arms' pub is still there, listed building and is not far from Farm St and one place that everyone went to. www(.)virtualbrum(.)co(.)uk/aston.htm Remove brackets Bren |
