H0107 1577 I'm can't work out what it says as to Condition for Elizabeth Fletcher. It just looks like a squiggle to me & I'm really, really hoping it's not widow. Thank you. |

looks like married. She is shown as Wife not head. also shown as Gentleman Servant wife. Perhaps hubby is on duty somewhere else and son only 1 month old. |

Woohoo! That's what I wanted to hear. I so didn't want her to be a widow as that would have blown my line of enquiry right out of the water. Thanks so much Jim. |

Is this the one? Name: Elizabeth Fletcher Age: 30 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1821 Relation: Wife Gender: Female Where born: West Walls, Kent, England Civil parish: Battersea Ecclesiastical parish: St Mary County/Island: Surrey Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: Wandsworth Sub-registration district: Battersea ED, institution, or vessel: 2 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 14 Household Members: Name Age Charles Fletcher 12 Edward J Fletcher 2 Elizabeth Fletcher 30 Elizabeth Fletcher 15 Jane Fletcher 4 Mary A Fletcher 10 Matilda Fletcher 8 Thomas W Fletcher 4 Mo Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 1577; Folio: 23; Page: 5; GSU roll: 174813 If so then it looks like 'Mar' (possibly short for married?) In the description for rank, profession or occupation, it says Gentleman Serv Wife (could that be wife of one of the Gentleman's servants?). If her husband was dead, then surely she would be classed as the head of the household. That's my interpretation for what it's worth. Hope it helps! |

Brilliant Gerry. I believe that baby Thomas W. is my great grandfather. Now my mystery is why his Dad isn't on 1851 with the rest of the family. I think I have them on 1841 (H1107/677/10) but the copy is so feint, I'm having trouble reading Charles occupation. It looks like Launderer with Elizabeth seemingly a Laundress. Going to play with the monitor settings to see if that helps. Would a Launderer go to being a Gentleman's Servant, I wonder? Thank you again everyone, I am so grateful for your help. |
