Info on an 1839 Death cert

Can anyone give me some idea how detailed death certs were at this time. What I'm really hoping is it would tell me where my ancestor was born. He died in Bradford, Yorks, but I notice his widow in the census is from Shoreditch, London, so I'm wondering whether he is too. Would this likely be on there at such early a date? |

i have a few hundred certs, and i dont remember a place of birth being on a death cert on any year. |

It's only in more recent years ( since 1969?) that you get a place of birth shown. The burial entry in parish records just sometimes might say where he was from, but that's not necessarily where he was born. His marriage banns would be another place where his parish would be mentioned, although again that need not be his birthplace. The marriage entry will show witnesses. One may be his father, although the relationship wouldn't be shown that early. It's a case of following clues,eg. in parish registers, then making a judgement using all the evidence available. Gwyn |

His name is James Binder and he died in Bradford Yorks, in 1839. Sarah, his widow on the censuses gives her birth place as Shoreditch. The only marraige on the IGI between a James Binder and a Sarah is in Nottinghamshire 1833. I have no evidence they were ever in Nottinghamshire though. The bride in that case was Sarah Stones, it's fairly common name, so not unsuprisingly there was a match for Shoreditch around the right time 1803, but as I say due to the frequenecy it comes up can't draw any firm conclusions on that. What does make me think it could be them though is there is a James Binder christened in Shoreditch, aroun 1788. The marriage on IGI says that James was born abt 1798 Nottingham, but doesn't give it's source. I suspect Thomas and Sarah may have eloped together, as if this is the right Thomas he would have been 15 years her senior and perhaps her family strongly dissaproved of the match, or maybe he was already married. I think they may have been the couple who married in Nottingham, then moved to Bradford. This would also go someway to explaining why he died so much earlier than her. However without evidence really I have no idea whether I'm right, or barking up completely the wrong tree... |
