I'd say they were her children (either from a previous marriage or from being a single mother) and his step-children. It was probably her giving the information to the enumerator and just said son or daughter without thinking about the fact that the relationship should be to the head of household. Can you find Betsey in the 1871 census? Kath. x |

Find his marriage. You may then find a matching one with (wife's name) Dawson, which would show that his wife brought the older children with her. The certificate would show her as Widow. You could then look for a Dawson death (her first/previous husband), and so on and so on. A wonderful way of losing time and spending money! And of course it's just as likely that something else happened instead!! One of my rellies had 3 husbands (first 2 died young). Each successive census her eldest daughter from the first marriage is shown with the current husband's surname. She married in the name she was born with. John |

Hi i have been looking at the census for 1881 ref: RG11/3214/4/2 for George Bradley there are 3 children on there with the surname of there mother but it states the father is George Bradley. Could they be his or do you think they are likely to be from another marriage?
