Jackie, there may not be any records. People can change their name to anything they like, as long as its not intended to defraud. Some people do it by Deed Poll but its not necessary. Sam x

If it's the right place and time you can search the london gazette from 1900 to 1978. They have records of name changes that have been done, most by deed poll. All entries have before and after names, and most have place of residence as well. If you'r really lucky it'll give age and other little tid bits. Good luck

hi thank you. I have my grandfather's marriage certificate (yes this again) and it states that he married Ceceily F Farrant, yet on her death certificate it states that her name was Florence A Farrant. I have searched the gazette as you suggested, but I have found nothing. any more suggestions? #jackie#

Jackie The information on a death certificate is what the informant told the registrar. If you search for the wife's birth, using the age on the marriage certificate as a starting point, all may (or may not) be revealed. John

ok thank you we know that she married charles henry simmonds in September 1928, name on certificate Ceceily F Farrant at the age of 30. We know that she had a daughter, Pamela Simmonds. The birth certificate states the mother's name as Cecilia F Farrant. We received Ceceily's death certificate this morning. This states that she died September 1950 and is buried under the name Florence A Simmonds. We are completely certain that this is her, even though the name is different. We struggle to read the marriage certificate, and the father's name looks like Luther Farrant, which would mean that she is from the Sussex area. thank you for your help jackie
