Wondered if anyone had got the free book from the Independent today and what they thought about it. I got mine first thing this morning and thought oh it will not be much good, but I was wrong. It is not just for beginners it is for everyone. There is some great information and ideas and lots of websites. In fact I have been out and got another one for the local family history group I help to run. I had got the original for them but after looking at it decided I wanted to keep it. My advice to anyone is to get one if you can it is worth £1.80. The newspapers not much cop though. Christine |

The book is called Tracing Your Family History by Stella Colwell it is not due for release until 2007. We don't usually buy newspapers but wanted this book. Christine |

I was impressed with the book. Handy size with loads of info in it on which websites to use, etc. Can't say I was thrilled with the FTM though. I;m going back to my family search PAF. |

I got the book and the CD and the paper just went straight into the recycling!! Haven't looked at the CD yet but the book looks good, written in plain English with quite a lot of websites. Worth £1.80 i reckon. R |

Agree with Rachel, Have had a good look through the book, but am not sure I will use the CD - already have a sub to Ancestry, so the free trial is of no use, and prefer PAF to anything else anyway. regards Looby |

Can someone please tell me what these abbreviations are for FTM and PAF. I see them all the time on here and I know its something to do with puting you family tree on, but just what is it and why do you need it, why is one better than the other etc etc. Betty |

Just had a look and thats a 2003 version. I thought this one was supposed to be a bit of an exclusive? But I suppose it won't have changed all that much - the basics will be the same and some of the website stuff will a little out of date, but for most of them they will be bigger now anyway! |

Betty Boo If you haven't done so already, check out posting on this board by Joy 'Genealogical Abbreviations and Terminolgy'. It should answer your question. Linda |

Nor me Margaret but Paf from family search was the first one I tried and I suppose its a case of 'its what you're used to'. |
