Many Thanks to all that have contributed especially Maureen finding the tilton mis trancribed you were all on the right lines and have now got all the family Many thanks. I have been asked by a great Aunt to try and hunt down her husbands side of the family. I have found Birth records for them, but Despite hours of searching I can not find them on any Census. She has the birth certificate for Esther Alice Fitton Father Edward Mother Alice nee Shaw Esther was born 27th Aug 1885 at Duncan St Ashton Lancashire Esther has siblings Clara born either 1883 or 1893 Ashton under Lyne Mary hannah born 1882 Ashton under Lyne Joseph born 1892 Ashton under Lyne Edward born 1884 Ashton under Lyne Thomas born 1880 Ashton under Lyne John born 1890 Ashton Under Lyne Has any one any ideas where I might find them I have searched Ancestry and IGI. Are you sure the parents are Edward and Alice? There is a family in Ashton under Lyne in 1881 where the parents are EDWIN and Alice, (although Edwin could be a mistake for Edward). They have children - Thomas, James ans John, who are older than the ages you give for the children, but these children on the 1881 census could have died and they named later ones after them. Hi Jim and Kath, Thanks for the info. Yes that is Esther's marriage she married George Frederick Wood. This what i couldn't understand, managed to find the birth records and her marriage record but no census, I am now thinking they were damaged so couldn't be transcribed. Sue

Hi I have found the 1881 records for Edwin, it look promising living on the right street and the right occupation Coal miner. Found him in 1871 living with his mother who is called Esther. But can't find him in 1891 or 1901. Not sure which way to go now, will just have to keep searching. Thanks Sue
