Can anyone tell me of a good place to look to find a rellie that emigrated to NZ between 1905 and 1910? We aren't sure of the exact date or even where he sailed form - he may have left in a hurry under a cloud! Also would it have been expensive, he was a boot maker so we are assuming not a lot of savings! would appriaciate some ideas! Helen. |

The National Archives website research page on ships' passengers lists says 'Archives New Zealand www.archives.govt.nz/index.htm holds original passenger lists; those for some ports before 1910 have been indexed by name.' But the link doesn't seem to work anymore. |

Also on Nat Archives site 'New Zealand Names of settlers to New Zealand can be traced in CO 209, New Zealand Original Correspondence from 1830 to 1922. Records of the New Zealand Company, which was set up to buy, settle and cultivate land in New Zealand, are in CO 208. This series also contains records of passengers emigrating between 1839 and 1850 in CO 208/269-272, applications for free passage in CO 208/273-274, applications for land and lists of landowners, agents, surveyors etc in CO 208/254-255.' You won't be able to see individual records online, you will need to visit Kew o look through them. |

Thanx Helen Unfortunately Kew is a little too far to travel! I'm in North Yorks! Will just have to see if there is anything in any local papers at the time to give a hint why he left and try working it out from there! Thanks once again Helen. |

Try Liverpool maritime museum - easier from North Yorkshire! See www*liverpoolmuseums*org*uk/nof/emigrants/media/emigration_australia*rtf - this has a lot of info on why people travelled, where from, who provided subsidies, whether they would have sailed or gone by steamship, etc...plus a bibliography. Alternatively try google with ' bibliography emigration 'new zealand' '. All the best |

Hi Helen It depends on where he arrived in NZ but different libraries in NZ plus museums have some records as well as the national archives. Have pasted the address for the Auckland library which has some searchable records, there is not alot online in NZ at the moment, but hopefully one day ! www*aucklandcity*govt.nz.www.elgar.govt.nz/dbtw-wpd/passengers/passenger.html (replace asterisks with . ) Hope this may help. Regards Robyn |
