I am looking at an image on Ancestry which says the source is HO107/863/11, the ED is 7, the folio 32 & the page 6. What do the three parts of the 'Source' denote, and what is the correct form of citation?

that looks correct to me HO107(the Refrence no)/863(an Area)/11(places within the area) after 1841 they went on to HO/107 then 4 leter area code, and then ref changed to RG9 etc

Don't know about 'correct' but the point of giving a reference is so that someone else can go back to the original source. I always give the first bit HO or RG then the piece and folio and then the page number. HO stands for Home Office and RG for Registrar General, by the way. On my family notes I always put the registration district too, as this is helpful when looking for certificates. The parliamentary ward details given at the top of the census page are helpful in locating streets in electoral registers too. nell
