Oh and a search on the IGI brings up a marriage between a Francis Farish and an Agnes Leishman 25th March 1816 in Annan, Dumfries. There is another marriage in Annan for a Francis Farish - possibly his father having a second marriage maybe? Francis Farish to Jean Chalmers 7th March 1799 Annan. There is a Francis Farrish birth back in 1762 - which could be Francis's father... Francis Farrish b. 5th Jan 1762 Nethertown, Kirkmichael, Dumfries son of David Farrish and Joan Bell.

Although there is another possibility for John from 1881 with different parents - but the family with parents Francis and Catherine/Caroline are in Jarrow in 1881 whereas the other John born similiar sort of date with parents William and Eleanor (Ellen in 1881 a widow) was in Barrow in Furness in 1881 so I dont think that he is the right one - I'm confident that the John, son of Francis and Catherine is the right one due to his location in Jarrow. Well there is a Francis Farish born 1886 in South Shields district, a look on the 1901 census brings up a Frank Farish born in Jarrow (which comes under South Shields district.) He has a brother John aged 7 but a look on the BMD indexes shows a John Frederick G Farish born in 1893. Is is possible that Catherine married both brothers? That Francis/Frank died and she married his younger brother John Frederick? JOHN EDWARD FARISH According to family information he was the husband of Catherine McCourt. I think she was born c 1872 in Cumberland and married in 1902 in South Shields, but according to the indexes her husband was FRANCIS FARISH, who I have been told was her husband's brother! family insist she was married to John Edward but I can't find any trace of him anywhere! I know I will have to order some certificates fairly soon, but there are lots of Farishes on the censuses and I can't make head or tail of it, so after three days it's time to call in the big brains!
