hiya, i have a question, where all the other siblings born in the same area? what i mean to say is is it possible/probable she was born in the same area? if it were me, i would contact the LOCAL REG OFFICE to the place of birth and ask them to search for you, you will not find this info online (if it hasnt been sent to the GRO) i have the same problem with my grt grannies death, it isnt in the GRO index at all, But I can safely Assume that it is in my local reg office, and for some reason it slipped the net, I need to ask them to so a 5yr search for her, as i have her on the 1891 census, and the husband re-marries in 1896, stating he is widower, I do hope this helps to help you in some way Julie |

Hello Everyone, Thanks for your suggestions. I have found all of her siblings born before and after her. She is named after my grandmother, and is one of nine siblings that made it to maturity. When checking the different sites mentoned before, I trailed through all the Jane Foots born, from 1900 through to 1920. It has taken me weeks. I thought I would hit on the year by getting her marriage certificate. She married Thomas James John Norris on 20th April 1930, St Marks Church,Camberwell. All the family were born in this area. The only person who changed their Christian name was her father ( my grandfather) who was born Thomas and changed it to Charles George after his father, as his younger brother of the same name(Charles George) died. Any help appreciated. |

ohhhh Kate I like it!!! Nothing worse than being interrupted when typing or busy, a fair and valid point(s) you have made, it could also be that the birth was registered but the registration got 'lost' on the way to the GRO, However the birth reg would be at the local reg office, if you see what i mean, wortha shot?? (ooops sorry kate, didnt see that bit) i'll have to get me eyes tested Julie |

Christine, if you have searched the actual GRO indexes as well as FreeBMD and not found her birth registration, then the possible explanations are: -she wasn't registered (not very likely around 1911, though) - her registration is there but you have ruled it out because she was born in a different district from the one you expect (or FreeBMD have mistranscribed it) -she was registered under a different first name from the one you are expecting, or as 'female' rather than her first name (if they hadn't decided what to name her yet when they registered her) - she was registered with a different surname - either a mis-spelling, or she was illegitimate and took her mother's maiden name? Or her mother was married to somebody else before the husband that you know about? - she was born in another country - her birth was registered, but didn't make it to the GRO index (again, not so likely in 1911, but possible) You could check with the local register office for the district where you think she was born, or on the local BMD site if there is one. - she was born earlier or later than you think I have been interrupted a few times while typing this, so by the time I 'add message' I will probably discover that somebody has found her for you!! Kate. |

Christine Join the club! My aunt was born in the 1920's. She was my mum's favourite older sister and I know she was alive in the 1960s as we used to visit her. Can I find her in the birth indexes having search from 1900 to 1940? Her parents married in 1909 and my mum was born 1937.........NO!! I have every sibling confirmed by certificate, Aunty is the only one that eludes me :( And before anyone asks: No there is no one else to ask, mum was the last one in the line and the family didn't keep records :( Chris |

when you say you have checked ancestry do you mean whet they transcribed or the BMD index it wont be on free bmd as only goes up to 1910. http://www.ancestry(.)co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx remove brackets Jeanette its always best to go a few years earlier |

I have the marriage certificate of one of my Aunts, which shows her being married in 1930 at the age of 19. I have checked Ancestry and FreeBMD and can find no trace of her birth, Can anyone help me please. Unfortunately all of the previous generation have passed on so there is no one to ask and I have no contact with any of my cousins. |
