When I first joined the fee was £5, members were notified when the cost was to be increased to £7.50 and given the date this was to start. This increase seems to have been done without prior notification. I recently renewed and queried being asked to pay £9.95, got the same reply from GR that payment would be £7.50 if paid by card and auto renewal. Of course by the time they replied my membership had just expired, I renewed using a debit card and opted for auto-renewal (which is what they told me would cost £7.50) however I was charged £9.95. I doubt I will renew again next year, not everyone has plastic and it seems very unfair to have this two-tier system and slightly sneaky not to make this clear. Kathleen |

Your principles i'm sure everybody agrees with Jenny. Welcome to the 21st century !!!!! I'm sure your ancestors would be horrified at the state of the world we live in (but i am sure a few would like to swap) Best regards and keep smiling. Denis |

Thanks Reg for your post. I definitely wasn't notified of the situation with continuous membership or I would have 'ticked the box' prior to paying this year. I agree with others that the cost is not at issue. It is good value overall but to have to pay more than others for the same thing always upsets me. Jennie xx |

I don't think the price is actually the point at issue............it's the two-tier system. I've been a member for a number of years, and I can confirm that I was given no indication when I joined, or subsequently, that a discriminatory system was in place, or likely to be initiated. I think it has been introduced comparatively recently......and without existing members being informed. We should have been notified of the change, and given the chance to change our renewal method, should we have so wished. Reg |

I agree, Denis. It's not exactly expensive, is it? |

Jennie Thanks for getting that clarified! I have been through two 'renewals' and have only ever paid £7.50 but I am on automatic renewal. I must admit to find it very strange that an established site such as this operates different 'costs' to join and renew. Seems almost a lottery!!!!! Chris<<< Using her £2.45 saved towards certs....Three years and I will get an extra one LOL |

I agree with you it should be one price and we should of been told to put in auto renewel, I did change to auto renewel just before my membership was due so I only paid £7.50 but I soon changed it back |

Yesterday I sent a message to Genes as I was not happy having paid more for my subscription this year. They replied that anyone with an autorenewal on their account would pay the same as before, ie £7.50 or £9.50 if you joined last year but everyone else would pay £9.95. I still think it's unfair as I don't think there was anything about continuous membership when I joined. I'm still not going to go for autorenewal because I don't know if I will want to be on here next year. Jennie xx |
