When you say you 'looked on the 1901 census', does that mean you didn't find him (yet)? FreeBMD only has one possible bride's name: Marriages Mar 1896 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ruffell Phoebe Winchester 2c 167 Tubbs Albin Alfred Winchester 2c 167 and that quarter is 'complete' on FreeBMD, so that is almost certainly who he married. If he died after about 1911, then it could be a long slog through the death indexes quarter-by-quarter to find him. Kate. |

That's got to be him thanks Kate, but how did you find her because I looked on free BMD and couldn't get anything. I have looked for him on the 1901 census and can find no trace anywhere. Thankyou Gloria |

Gloria, if you find the marriage entry for Albin on FreeBMD and click on the 'page number' then Phoebe's name comes up. As for the 1901 census, if you post up details of when and where he was born I will have a try later (going out in a minute). A name like Albin is almost certain to be mistranscribed! Kate. |

Oh Kate you are not kidding, he started life as Alban Elford, which then became Alben Alfred and finally Albin Alfred born; 1860 Horton Dorset. I believe his mother was Charlotte the unmarried daughter of Richard Tubbs. On the 1861 census he's down as grandson aged 1. In 1881 he is living at Crowd Hill, Winchester with his uncle David my great grandfather. Poor little lad seems to have been shunted around paying for the sins of his mother. Gloria |

KATE I do apologise I called you Kathy, a friend of mine called Kathy rang me and totally confused me. Karen I thought Tubbs was an unusual name but their are thousands of them. Very inconsiderate really. I would suspect that the Tubbs near you does have a connection somewhere. They do seem to if you dig deep and wide. Gloria |
