My Great Grandfather died in Perth, Australia in 1926. His name was Frederick Waters. He remarried around 1909 and emigrated there by 1912 with his new wife and their child 'Margie' Waters. However, I don't know where to start looking to find a record of his death, which I would like to hope would lead me to find the name of his second wife or child, and possibly confirmation of where he was actually born in the UK. I am fairly certain he was born in Chatham around the 1850's, but different census give him different places and years of birth and I can't pinpoint him. I am also not certain of the surname of his first wife (my great grandmother), I know her first name was Maria, but have no confirmation of her maiden name, so have sent for my own grandmother's birth certificate in the hope that it will be on there as her own mothers maiden name. I have found a marriage certificate for Frederick, but can't cross reference it against his wife as I don't know her true surname. I have it down as Cross, but there is no record of a Maria Cross marrying a Frederick Waters in 1883 (to match with the record I found) or any other dates close by. Anyone got any ideas where I should start looking? I did try familysearch but I get confused with it. I couldn't find anything. I'm hitting my head on the wall in frustration over this part of the puzzle that calls itself my family tree. I feel like I've fallen out and hit myself on every branch on the way down :o( Can anyone help please? |

Hi Gerry. There are some BDM's for Western Australia ( on line ) 'click' on Family History ( under Births, Deaths & Marriages ) and follow the links. http://www.justice.wa.gov.au/portal/server.pt If you know the year or approx month of Death you could Email them for a search. Also for Shipping into Australia you could try the N.A.A ( National Archives of Australia. There are 90 'hits' for a Frederick Waters NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF AUSTRALIA. ( N.A.A ) Search now... as a guest. Type in Surname and or given name. Keywords (or name) eg:( Mary Smith ) Click on SEARCH Cheers. Tony Oz ( Australia ) |

WOW!!!! Brenda you are a star [[HUGS]] !! Thank you *SO* much! It seems so logical when you see it but I've spent hours checking records and was obviously so close without realising it. Thanks also to others for the other leads. I shall certainly keep note and check them out to see what I can find. I shall now be sending for the marriage certificate for my Great Grandparents :o) Thanks once again everyone - VERY much appreciated xx |

Hi Gerry, The WA State Library has an excellent 'Ask a Librarian' service (free). ('Query' form is on-line -ask 'Google'). They will check their records - including 'passenger arrivals' (up to 1925) and electoral rolls. They could possibly have 'Frederick's death notice -and info on his family. I noticed the 'National Archives' -show a Leslie Lewis Waters b Faversham -enlisting in Kalgorlie (1914) next of kin - Frederick Waters. (?) You may wish to advertise for family/descendants in 'The West Australian' newspaper (free) -they have a 'Can We Help' page --every Monday - email: [email protected] - Valerie (WA) |

WOW x 100 :-O Brenda - you are a marvel !! This must have taken you ages! You have no idea how much time I have spent trying to source this info and hit more brick walls than I care to mention! You really are a star and I can't begin to say how much I appreciate all the effort you have put into this! I'm utterly amazed ! (I shall be PMing you seperately :o)) To everyone else who has come up with suggestions - thank you all so much, you have given me so many new leads to follow up. I've checked out some of them already, and although I've not come up with anything certain, there were a few snippetts of information on a couple of sites that I have noted down as very strong possible connections. Thank you all again - all very much appreciated :o) [hugs] |

Hi Valerie, I found the record of Leslie Lewis Waters too, although his Mother's name was Francis Emily Waters, so wouldn't quite fit. I think there was more than just my Waters family from Faversham. I'm slowly working through everything anyone has mentioned on here - I'm astounded by it all!! Many many thanks !! |
