How can i find an Irish ancestor

Ann, sorry to ask a silly question, but is Thomas his first name or last? If it's his first name and he has an uncommon last name, you might try a google search. I tried a google search with just Ballymaguigan and there were a lot of hits. Someone on GR found my Irish ancestor by typing what I knew about him and came up with what we believe were his parents, siblings and place of birth. Best of luck.

Is your grandfather still alive?If not could it be on his death cert. Or did he have any sibling's if so, it might be clearer on there certs..if you can get hold of them that is. Marion

I have a marriage cert. for my grandfather in which it gives his fathers name but no one can make it out it looks like it could be Thomas from the Ballymaguigan area of N. Ireland even the registery office cant dechipher has anyone any tips thanks thanks to all who answered my reqest sorry did not make the message very clear my ancestors name looks like it could be Thomas McWilliams the McWilliams part is correct not sure about the Thomas it would be round about 1850 or so i know one of his sons was called Francis who was married to a Margaret Murphy 19th Dec.1903 in St. Treas Church Balymaguigan N. Ireland has anyone any information that could help.
