I knew things were going too well! Am trying to trace anything on my mother's paternal grandparents. All I have to go on is her father's birth certificate. He, John Herbert Fletcher, was born 10/04/1892 in Fulham. Father is stated as Thomas William Fletcher, mother is Frances Schofield Fletcher formerly Percy. He was a timekeeper at the gasworks & they lived at 69 Brookville Road, Fulham. I cannot find a marriage or a birth for either of them. I'd really appreciate any pointers as to where I'm going wrong.

I'm confused. John Herbert Fletcher born Fulham ref 1a 304 is registered in 1892 Quarter 1. If this is yours, then date of birth can not be April Please advise. Jim

Once again I am in awe. Thank you Jim & Jeanette. Have no idea if Thomas was in army but certainly possible. My grandfather (John Fletcher) was in the army & met & married my Nan in India where she was born. So maybe he followed in his fathers footsteps. So can I run some thoughts by you please? Don't know if Thomas & Frances married in India as first child was born in Kent. As Frances came from Ireland, could they have married there? If so, am I likely to be able to find any record of this? Thomas & Frances married (where & when?) & had a child in Kent, a number of children in India & a number in Fulham. Frances died in 1894. Thomas married Lucy Cheney in 1895 & they have at least 2 children. Lucy may also have a child called Alice. Once again, thank you for your help. I was getting quite frustrated & getting nowhere. Theory looks good. You might want to contact another member called Geraldine who has Frances Schofield Percy in her tree but with a birth year of 1870 or someone called Barry who has her but with no year of birth shown. Perhaps they know something that is eluding you at present. Jim
