My GGrandfather served as a 'Seaman' at the time of his marriage in 1871. On 1881 census his wife and two children are living with her family and she is registered as 'Married'. By the time of the 1891 census, she is registered as a Widow. I was unable to find him on the 1871 census because he was a lodger although at the time of the census he was presumably away at sea coming home a little later for his wedding. How can I find out which naval fleet he served with etc? His name is Waisnis/Wiseness and it maybe that he didn't serve with the British Navy, is there any way I can find out? Mr Waisnis/Wisness is very elusive! :( Thanks to all Lyn x x |
