Hi How do I find my granddad's service record for ww2- I have him as a Lance Corporal with a service no? on my grandmother's death cert in 1943, when he was with military police. Can I get anything from these details. Also would it also cover his ww1 service when he was in the South Wales Borderers. Thanks Simone x Got to pop out now for the kids but will look back in later.

There are loads of threads on this already, if you put military records into the search box you should find them. If you have his service number, you can send of for his army records. They cost £30 and you need to supply service number, a copy of the death certificate and the next of kin needs to sign the form. They take about 4 weeks to arrive. Hi if your sending of for WW2 Records they are now taking longer to send out infomation on soliders records Mine took three months, its because a lot of serving soliders are needing their services. WW1 Records come from Kew, the National archives good luck with your research. Julie

Hello all, What sort of details does the service details for WW2 contain? I have my fathers army paybook which contains some details, would his service records give me more? Cheers Molly

I got my mums records Molly. They are quite interesting although everyones will be different. Gives quite a lot of info. Army joining record, medical record, medal info, places posted. For me it was very interesting as I had never really asked my mum about her time in the army.
