Would the same person appear on a census twice?

The same question came up a few weeks ago and yes it does seem fairly common. My ggg grandmother appeared twice - once at home and again with one of her daughters at a friends house down the road. I hadn't noticed at first, as on one return she is Frances but the other Fanny and her age differs by a year as well.

I have exactly same situation with 12 year old Emily Horstead - with mum and dad and also a few doors down the road with auntie.

I'm sure I've discovered this too. Andrew Hartland, born 1854 in Salwarpe, is twice on the 1871 census, 1st as a servant on a farm nearby, but 2nd as his parents' (George & Emma) son, occupation 'farm servant'. However, to add to the mystery, he is not George & Emma's son on previous census but William & Sarah's - George & William were brothers!!

Oh to add - she was born Old Kent Road, London, or thereabouts.

Thanks for your replies, thats just what I wanted to hear! If you wouldn't mind looking up for me to see what you think to make sure I'm not just seeing what I want to see. Her name is Lillian Jeffreys born appx. 1879 - on the 1891 census she is living with her parents & siblings. There is also a listing for a 'Lidija Jefferys' as a visitor in the house of Mary Ann Wilson who I believe to be her sister. The surname is spelt differently but I have found it to be inconsistent throughout so am taking it as the same name - and as for Lidija - when I clicked on the actual document I immediately read it as Lillian - after about an hour of searching for Lydias! Thanks for your help!

Hi - as a newbie I'm looking for advice from the more experienced than me! I've come across a girl who seems to appear on the 1891 census twice. She's living with her parents and also appears as a visitor in the home of a woman I believe to be her sister. Did this sort of thing happen? She's an important link for me if she is the same person. I remember with the 2001 census I was on holiday and had to fill in a census form for where we were staying but am sure we also filled in one for home. Thanks in advance for any help.
