Gerry, you will almost certainly find that that 'parish records' disk does not contain the parishes you are looking for, and if by some miracle it did, the transcriptions on that disk will certainly be available elsewhere, perhaps on ancestry, Family Relatives, or The Genealogist. So don't waste your money! Kate.

Hi Gerry I don't know about that specific edition of Family Tree Maker but there are other editions that come with free discs and quite frankly they are a waste of money. The coverage is very poor and not much of the country is included at all. Sam x

Here is an addy you may like to try for P Rs - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb*com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle As always replace the asterisk with a dot.

Many thanks for all that info everyone - most helpful. In Smiths yesterday, I saw a box set of the Who Do You Think You Are - Family Tree Maker. It said on the box that it contained a disk of parish records. Has anyone purchased this and is it any good? I already have the WDYTYA which I bought from Wilkinsons for about £5. This box set obviously contains more and is £22.49. I just wondered if the 'Parish Records' disc is worth spending that money on when I already have the main disc for the programme. Any views anyone?

Many libraries have a local studies section and hold copies on fiche of parish registers, but not usually non-conformist ones. Your local records office also will hold copies for most of the county. Many family history societies also have copies at their libraries, or have transcriptions for sale. If you are lucky enough to have ancestors from the Medway area, the registers (scanned) are available at www*cityark*medway*gov*uk. You will be familiar with freebmd but may not know about its two sister sites, freecen and freereg. The latter is attempting to transcribe the nation's parish registers!!! 'Our objective is to provide free Internet searches of baptism, marriage, and burial records, that have been transcribed from parish and non-conformist registers of the U.K. FreeREG is a companion project to FreeBMD (a database of the GRO birth, marriage and death indexes from 1837) and FreeCEN (a database of census information). To make FreeREG effective we are in URGENT need of volunteers willing to undertake the transcription of registers or make available their own transcriptions. (See Contributing to the project.) Status August/September 2006 Database loading is continuing we are now at 1.1 million entries with an increasing number of transcribers involved.' http://freereg*rootsweb*com/ And finally 'On-line Parish Clerks The on-line parish clerks projects provide a focus for the transcription of historical records at parish level. There are projects for the following counties: Cornwall Cumberland & Westmorland Devon Dorset Lancashire Sussex Wiltshire ' www*genuki*org*uk/indexes/OPC*html Jan

gerry you will find a lot of parish records have now been moved to your local county hall. the best way to find out if they have is to do check with your local church and council offices which hold some of the bmd records and they will be able to tell you were the records are that you wish to research good luck in your research

Gerry one place to look for baptisms is the LDS site at www*familysearch*org (remove * and put .) Also Ancestry has Pallotts Baptism and Burial records for pre-1837. There are also the parish records for the area.

I'm relatively new to searching and know about looking things up on census records & BMD index etc, but when I gain access to other people's trees who are connected to me in some way, I often see that they have details of an individuals baptism. Is there somewhere on line to obtain this information or do they have to contact churches in the area where the person was born? There seem to be so many of them, that I am wondering if there is some source for this kind of information. Hope someone can help me on this one, as I would find access to that kind of info very helpful indeed. Many thanks in advance Gerry
