I have found 5 possible births for my great aunt, but as so little is known of her, and i do not have a birth cert of my grandfather, I do not know where to go next. Her parents were married in July 1868, so I checked from the last quarter in that year through to the last quarter 1871 and found 5 poss. entries in the right area. Do I have to buy all 5 certs or is there a way I can short cut that amount of £££££??? Kathlyn

If you know the parents' names, use them as 'checking points' when you apply for certs. Does she appear on 1871 census? If so what is her age? Reg

Hi Reggie, This is a rather complicated story. My great grandfather father died prior to the 1881 census, well I think he must have died as his wife, my great grandmother, is listed as Head, along with granddad and his brother plus a lodger,(who she married in 1894) and there is no sign of a Mary Ellen living at that address. BUT, I have found a Mary Ellen , in service in the right area at that time.......We then forward to the 1901 census and living with great grandmother and her lodger is a....Mary E. Corney, listed as daughter, and her son John listed as grandson....Is this the mystery Mary Ellen????? If so her age is given as 31, making her birth 1870. Your thoughts much appreciated. kathlyn
