My mothers grandmother was married more than once (actually, she thinks more than five!) but she doesn't know to who. Is there any way to find out who her pervious husbands were? Thanks =) |

Have you tried looking for her in the censuses (assuming she was around in 1901 or earlier)? And if you go on ancestry dot co dot uk you could do a marriage search with her last husband's name. That should give you some idea of dates. And could point you towards a surname and death date for the previous husband. And so on, until your luck peters out. If you want to, you can post some details here and the kind souls will do some of the head-scratching and searching for you. |

Thanks John and David. Thing is, I have no idea what her first name or maiden name is. My mum only remembers meeting her when she was about 3. I just looked up her dad's details and it says his mothers maiden name was Smallwood. We had a look at her dad's brother's (who we assumed was part of the same family. She never heard anything to suggest otherwise) birth certificate and it says that his mothers maiden name was Beesley. I thought there might have been an error and one of the names she took on from one of her many marriages was put down, but I don't know how to find out who she married to see if this was possible. I know that one of the sons fathers was John Tod so I'm assuming she married him but I looked on Ancestry.com and coundn't find anything to match them. Any help or advice you could give would be wonderful. x |

You need the birth cert for which you found the refs......... It will tell you her first name, plus that of her husband. You don't give any clue about when this person was alive, so it is difficult to give firm advice about how to proceed. Reg |
