Went to America - how can I find..........

I am led to believe that Rebecca Garner went to America in the 19th Century with her 11 children. She was apparently a widow. She was born c1815 Norfolk. Her children were;- Rebecca 1835 James 1836 Susan 1837 elizabeth 1839 Josiah 1839 Martha 1841 Shelomith 1842 Eliza 1843 Naomi 1844 Susannah 1846 Hepzibah 1848 Is there anyway I can find when she travelled to America? I have also been led to believe that a freak wave hit the ship as it entered New York and that she and a number of her children died as a result. I know its a bit of a long shot but just thought I'd ask. Many Thanks Karen |

You could try http://www.ellisisland.org but it only starts in 1892 looking on the census - it looks like she left between 1851 & 1861 |
