I am checking a marriage and am perplexed at the details found....... Eliza Moss married William Walter Cartwright. The area of West Ham is correct, as is the year. 1897. AMJ qt.. ...but... Eliza has the ref. 4a 236 and William Walter has the ref. 4a 24. Do you think I am barking up the wrong tree!!!!!

An up wrong tree barking situation would be my first reaction. The index image pages are perfectly clear. There is a possibility of a GRO index transcription error, which you could only solve by buying his marriage certificate. If the certificate showed the wife you think it is, you could then alert the GRO to an index error.

Yes the GRO indexes can be wrong, I needed at death for Mary and found it under May sent for the cert and it was my Mary. Pauline
