Thanks Janet for the info , i have ried origins but they only go to 1901 for the middlesex regiment so it might be a trip to kew . Yes i do hope i find his attestation record becaouse it really will , i think, raise some eyebrows . Thanks again Janet and have a jolly lovely day all the best denis

Thanks Ann for the info my grandfather was in 4th bat middx reg he attested in 1902 . and discharged in 1910 due to ill health Iwill defenitely look at those sites Have a good day denis

Must also point out that they are worth their weight in Gold. I know who my grandfathers next of kin were (not just his mother but his siblings and half sister were also listed) i found out where he'd been living, what he'd been doing as a job, who he'd worked for and a complete physical description. What really made it for me was the fact that at 18 years of age he was 5ft 2in with an expanded chest measurement of 33ins. Even I can beat that!

I got my grandfathers (1905-6) off of origins. It cost £10 but a hell of a lot cheaper than a trip to Kew. I think they're copied by SOG members? then posted on to you.

Hello Denis. I don't know if this will be of any help but my grandfather served in the 3rd battalion Middlesex Regiment from 1895 to 1901. I found the National Army Museum Chelsea quite helpful and the information that I have is that from 1896 to 1900 the 3rd battalion was known as the Elthorne Militia.In 1900 due to the Boer War two extra battalions were added and named 3rd and 4th and the old 3rd became the 5th. Still with me? From 1900 to 1902 the new 3rd battalion remained at Woolwich and then during 1902 it sailed to South Africa and by the end of the year was stationed at Stellenbosch, Cape Colony. The National Army Museum holds quite a lot of info about the Middlesex Regiment. Its best to write as they are not very good at answering emails. Good luck. Ann

Hi peoples, Could anybody out there put me in the right direction??? i am trying to find attestation records for the middlesex regiment after 1901. I did manage to find upto 1901 on originsnetwork.com a really good sight but just cant seem to find anything thereafter. Anybodies ideas would be a great help thanks denis
