Other than a pregnancy why would you get a Licence

I know some people if they were pregnant or if the man was going of to war got a licence to marry, but other than that why would someone in 1857 do that . Or is this usual thanks . |

Valerie I had a special licence in 1987 as I wanted to get married in the church which I used to attend but it wasn't in mum and dads parish and I no longer lived in the county as was working away from home. hope that helps dawnie |

Googling produces innumerable results....this is part of one........... Sometimes banns are not appropriate and the couple may obtain a common licence from their diocesan bishop's registry. thanks for that Dawn and Reg I had forgotten there was such a thing as a special Licence too I wondered whether it was because they were Jewish and married in a ordinary Church . |
